ADHD Counselling in Brisbane for Adults

Living with ADHD, or wondering whether ADHD helps explain your experiences, can bring questions about work, study, relationships and how you see yourself. You may be holding things together on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, inconsistent or exhausted underneath.

At Connect The Dots Psychology, I offer psychological therapy for adults who want to understand these patterns and find more workable ways forward. Sessions are available in Spring Hill, Brisbane, and via secure Telehealth. We can explore practical strategies alongside self-criticism, anxiety, burnout and the experiences that have shaped how you relate to yourself.

My work focuses on therapy. I do not provide formal ADHD diagnostic assessments or medication management. You are welcome to begin with a free 10–15 minute enquiry call to discuss what you are looking for and whether my approach is a good fit.

Support for ADHD-Related Challenges

I work with adults aged 18 and over, including people who have been diagnosed with ADHD and those who are still exploring whether it fits their experience. You might be seeking support with:

  • Getting started, staying organised or following through on tasks

  • Cycles of overworking, procrastination and exhaustion

  • Intense emotions, rumination or difficulty switching off

  • Perfectionism, shame or a harsh inner critic

  • Communication, boundaries and relationships

  • Making sense of a late diagnosis and what it means for you

These difficulties can have more than one explanation. We take time to understand your individual experience, strengths and circumstances, without assuming that everything you are finding difficult comes from ADHD.

How I Work With ADHD-Related Concerns

Therapy is collaborative and shaped around what matters to you. We look at how your attention, energy and emotions interact with your environment, as well as the beliefs and coping patterns you have developed over time.

Our work may include:

  • Exploring messages such as “I’m lazy” or “I should be coping better” and developing a more compassionate understanding of yourself

  • Identifying patterns of perfectionism, people-pleasing, withdrawal or overcommitment

  • Trying manageable planning, pacing and task-initiation strategies

  • Developing ways to respond to emotional intensity and stress

  • Practising communication and boundaries at work, in study and at home

  • Recognising your strengths and building supports around how you actually function

I draw on approaches including CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy and relational, experiential work, according to your needs and goals. You can read more about my therapy styles and approach.

Where distressing past experiences or trauma are also affecting you, we may consider trauma-focused work, including EMDR when appropriate. This work addresses those experiences and their impact; it is not presented as a treatment for the core features of ADHD. We discuss the options together and work at a pace you can give feedback on.

If high standards and self-criticism are a particular concern, you may also find the information about therapy for perfectionism helpful.

What to Expect From Our Work Together

Before Your First Session

All new clients start with a complimentary 10–15 minute enquiry call. This gives us a chance to discuss what you need, answer initial questions and decide whether we are a good fit. Please follow the new-client instructions when booking, and wait until we have spoken and agreed to proceed before booking a full therapy appointment.

If we agree to work together, I will explain the intake process and next steps.

In the First Few Sessions

We explore your current concerns, relevant history, strengths and previous experiences of support. Together, we identify what you would most like to change and agree on a starting point. Sessions can include reflective conversation, practical tools and experiential work, depending on what is useful for you.

Ongoing Therapy

The frequency and length of our work depend on your goals and circumstances. Some people want support with a specific difficulty; others want space to explore longer-standing patterns, relationships or trauma. We review progress together, and you are welcome to ask for a different pace or more or less structure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need an ADHD Diagnosis Before Starting Therapy?

No. You can seek support while you are exploring ADHD or waiting for an assessment. We focus on what is affecting your life and what may help. Therapy with me does not replace a formal diagnostic assessment.

Can You Diagnose ADHD or Prescribe Medication?

I do not offer formal ADHD diagnostic assessments or prescribe medication. If you are seeking assessment or medication advice, your GP can discuss appropriate referral options. My role is to provide psychological therapy.

Can We Work on Anxiety, Burnout or Trauma as Well?

Yes. We can consider these concerns alongside ADHD-related difficulties and agree on priorities together. The approach is tailored to the whole picture of what you are experiencing.

Do You Work With Children or Adolescents?

No. This service is for adults aged 18 and over. If you are seeking support for a child or adolescent, your GP can help you explore child-focused services.
